Somewhat on-topic, I found this article by Paul Bloom about the idea that belief in god(s) and the afterlife and such are a result of our particular brain composition: http://www.theatlantic.com/doc/200512/god-accident
I am a recovering Southern Baptist and founder/editor of Whosoever: An Online Magazine for GLBT Christians. I am an ordained minister and a graduate of the Candler School of Theology at Emory University in Atlanta, Ga. I currently serve as associate pastor at Garden of Grace United Church of Christ in Columbia, S.C. I am also a spiritual director, trained through the Episcopal Diocese of Atlanta. Look for my first book, Bulletproof Faith: A Spiritual Survival Guide for Gay and Lesbian Christians to be published in September 2008 by Jossey-Bass.
